In order to serve Chinese students, Chinese alumni and American students studying in China, Indiana University’s Gateway Office was scheduled to open in May 2014. The office’s main objective was to serve as an excellent home base for overall IU activities in China. The facility, till today, enables Indiana University to accelerate academic activities and partnerships throughout China and support a wide variety of teaching, research, and outreach activities. The office also enhances Indiana University's highly regarded academic expertise on China and East Asia.
Indiana University President Michael McRobbie inaugurated the IU China Office at an official ceremony organized by Ed Bernays. Among the esteemed guests who made remarks were Yi Gang, Vice-Governor of People's Bank of China; Wu Jianping, Director of the Network Center and Technical Committee of China Education and Research Network (CERNET); and Yuan Si, Vice-President, and Provost of Tsinghua University. IU alumni Vincent Mo and Esmond Quek (Ed Bernays Principal) were recognized for their contributions to the university during the event.
